The word Dinosaur means “terrible lizard”. Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago,
Long before man appeared on earth .They lived or more than 150milion years
and became extinct some 63milion years ago. They were reptiles .They were
so dominant that their Era is called the Age of Reptiles .Some dinosaurs
were of gigantic size .They were the largest animals that ever lived on earth.

·         They are divided into three main groups

1.       Theropods     2.Prosauropods    3.Sauropods

Tyrannosaurus Rex
The fierce Tyrannosaurus Rex (tyrant-lizard king) is the best known theropods.
It measured 14metres in length and stood 6metres high .Its head was 1metre log .Its teeth were about 15cm long and very sharp .it had very short arms.
Allosaurus
Long before tyrannosaurs appeared Allosaurus were the main carnivorous

Megalosaurus
Smaller theropods included the Deinonychus the Ornithomimus and
The  compsognathus.
The deinonychus was about 2.5metres long and 1metre tall
The ornithomimus was but the same size as an ostrich.
  Diplodocus,
Diplodocus the longest dinosaur known, looked much like the Apatosaurus but was slimmer and Lighter. It grew as long as 27metres.A typical sauropod like the Apatosaurus or Brontosaurushad a long neck , a long tail and a huge, deep chest. Its front legs were shorter than its hind legs.                                                        Brachiosaurus
The Brachiosaurus, another type of sauropod  was the largest known dinosaur. It was fearsomelyhuge. It stood 12metres tall or more and weighed up to 77tonns. Its front legs were longer  than the hind ones.                                                                               Stegosaurs
Were large plant-eaters with huge , upright bony plates along the back. They were about 6 meters long and 2.5metres tall at the hips. They had a small head and a short neck. Their hind legs were much longer than the front ones
They had on or two rows of vertical bony plates down the back. Their tail was armed with two pairs of bony spikes. The plates and spikes may have helped protect the animals from enemies.                                                 Ankylosaurs
Ankylosaurs are known as the armoured dinosaurs. They were low, broad animals walking on four legs. They grew 4.5 to 6metres long and had a skull more than 0.5metres long. Heavy, bony plates covered their body and head. Many of the plates had ridges or spikes.
Some kinds of ankylosaurs had a large clublike bony structure at the end of the tail.         Triceratops
